U10s Four Counties Cricket Festival at Repton,Derbyshire
What better venue for a weekend of County Cricket. An idyllic location in a picturesque setting. Repton was the perfect venue for the Derbyshire U10s Four Counties Cricket Tournament.
Established in 2010, this annual event is designed to help each player learn more about themselves, their game and how they can develop into the best player possible by giving them a taste of life as a top class cricketer both on and off the field.
The visiting teams Yorkshire, Staffordshire and Shropshire all turned out in force with some excellent and close games being played out on the pitch. Some of the lads in their first season after recently being selected to represent their respective counties at this high level.
After training sessions in the morning that provided opportunities to improve skills as well as taking part in workshops on strength and conditioning and the Spirit of Cricket it was down to business as each County was to face each other over the 3 day event.
Derbyshire needed to take a win over the weekend to break an unsuccessful run they have found themselves in recently and that came on Saturday. A close game Derbyshire headed out to field. Taking some excellent wickets alongside some outstanding fielding this soon put the team in good contention for a victory, Heading out to bat their campaign took a nervous start but Derbyshire eventually came out triumphant as the team fought hard to take the much needed win.
Unfortunatly the third day of play had to be cancelled due to the excessive rains over the previous evening left both pitches to wet to play. Derbyshire new found confidence will be tested as the season starts to draw to a close.
